My Favorite Books (Current Edition)

“If a book is written well, I always find it too short.”

Books. Do I have to say anything more for you to feel the cozy, heart warming atmosphere of a rainy day, hot tea and the soul stirring aroma of a good novel? There are some books that you can tell from the very moment you start are going to be one of those novels that gives fresh inspiration, new ideas, and life long friends. Way back when Alice in Wonderland was the novel I found pulled me into the world of imagination, to the dystopian genre that today seems to challenge my thinking, good books are one of the things in this life that I truly cherish.
There are some books that are the best for getting into new genres, new varieties, and really just starting the process of getting into the moments of cozy and quiet that God has given us. In kingdoms and battle, magic and faith, life and love, what better way fantasize over such places with characters that end up becoming some of your truest friends?

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”

My *current* favorite books:
  • Wishtress, by Nadine Brandes. O my goodness, I think I'm still crying! This book is so amazingly, powerfully, unforgettably, beautifully written. Some of my new fictional besties are in this novel. The ways the author ties in her faith and life into her novels is just so stellar. I truly believe Anne Shirley really nailed it on the head when she said, “I love a book that makes me cry.”
  • Anne Of Green Gables Series, by L. M. Montgomery. How do I explain an amazing beauty in only a few lines? Anne is one of my all time heroes, as well as Rilla, and I don’t know how to explain how much this series has stuck with me through out my life. From beautiful lessons and trials to be learned and overcome, to sadness and joy to be mourned over and to be enjoyed, Anne and her family are friends I can’t ever forget.
  • The Hunger Games Series, by Suzanne Collins. This series is an amazing young adult dystopian romance, and was one of the first that really challenged my thinking of the future, and also inspired a new area of my favorite book genres.
  • Romanov, by Nadine Brandes, is a historical fiction, but it’s also a powerful fantastical romance about an amazing story of forgiveness. It’s so amazingly inspiring and memorable.
  • The Scourge, by Jennifer Neilsen. Like in Wishtress, some of my new best friends were found in reading this novel. Ani and Weevil are so cute, and they’re also just so rememberable. I don't think I’ll ever be able to forget this novel.
“I love a book that makes me cry.”

I think that this is a significantly accurate description of my *current* favorite books. I could go on and on about my love of books and the lessons and beauty they hold, but I think that this is as good as I’ll be able to get in trying to describe the overwhelming joy I find when a good novel is places in my hands.

"After all, I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

  1. I don't want to go outside today. Just give me one of these books, I'll find my nook, and see you tomorrow! Great synopsis of these books. I'm ready to be drawn away to places I won't soon forget!

  4. I never made it last book three with Anne (even though I loved them!). I’m thinking maybe I should give Rilla a try!
