Romanov, by Nadine Brandes (Book Review)
The Romanov family is under exile in Russia. There only hope is that Nastya, one of the Tsar’s daughters, can bring an ancient spell with them and save their family. But when the Bolshevik leader threatens more than just exile, Nastya must get help from one of the Bolshevik’s soldiers, Zash, or deal with the consequences…
“Come back to me.”
*sighs* Did this book really have to end?? It was so amazing! I felt so many things while reading it, and it holds such a powerful message. The things that really stood out to me in this book were: One, the historical fiction aspect of it! The fact that at least half this book was based of off a true family and their story really makes such a compelling and rememberable plot.
Two, the amazing story of forgiveness and the fact that the author brought Jesus into the story. Iisus is the Romanov’s Lord and Savior in this book, which is translated from Russian to Jesus Christ. That fact that this book was a feel good, heart warming, beautiful story —which it is— but was also a story of forgiveness and redemption was just so spectacular.
Three, the amazing character development! This book held some of the most character development in any book I’ve read. It was so impactful and real. It wasn’t fluffy or over the top.
The only thing that was different from just regular historical romance, was that there was a lot of spells and spell mastery, but that really what was what built up the plot.
The relationships are just *chef’s kiss*, and if you, like me, really wanted more and didn’t want it to end, I’d recommend reading the bonus chapter that Nadine Brandes newly published. It extends the story, and gave a little nugget more of the story we love.
I highly recommend this book as a young adult (13-17yo), and I’d rate it an easy 10-10.
