The Visitation, by Frank Peretti (Book Review)

“But kids like us grow up and need our own relationship with God, forged in the heart through time and experience, not draped around us by the church we attend. We need to know God for ourselves, not secondhand.”

Travis Jordan, the former pastor of a church he started years ago in the small Washington town of Antioch, has been trying to hide his painful past. But now, hundreds of people are headed to the peaceful town where he lives, where there has been sightings of a man claiming to be Jesus and supernatural healing. But Travis can tell that these aren’t ordinary visitations. He learns and hears more about the self proclaimed Christ, and when he and his friends try to uncover the truth about “Antioch’s Messiah”, Travis encounters God in whole new ways, as his faith is put to the test…

"I like winning, it just takes longer."

This book is so crazy! It’s not what you’d expect at all. It’s very good and very well written. Frank Peretti is a very well known author, and I can see why. His writing style has so much depth and character development. The way he is able to write into the past and back in such an understandable way was very impressive. The emotions he was able to display in his characters to me as the reader was very much appreciated.
The main thing I liked in this book was the display of healing in a human’s heart when they trust God. The main character in this book has a lot of hurt in his life and built up walls against the Church and Jesus, and it wasn’t until he let go of it all that he was able to understand more of God’s will for his life.
The second thing I liked was the love story. And I’m sure that’s not surprising based off of my other reviews where I’ve said how romance is my favorite genre, but this was a different kind of storyline with the love story in it. It's was so sweet, and I really liked it. Some books I’ve read make the love story so abrupt and over the top emotional, but this one was so meaningful and totally based off of Jesus' views.
The spirituality of this book was crazy impactful! It was amazing how Frank Peretti was able to portray when the anti-Christ comes. It was very detailed as to spiritual things and other things (murder, demons, etc) so that would be one thing to suggest is just to readers just to know what you are getting into.
I would recommend it for ages 13 and up for those reasons also.
One other thing that was that its sort of a slow starting and quick ending book. It took me a while to get going with the book, but once I did, I couldn't stop.
I really thought this book was very good and I would rate it a 8 out of 10!
