The Ice Dragon, by George R. R. Martin (Book Reveiw)

Adara is a winter child. She was born during the very harshest winter storm anyone can remember. She has always remembered seeing the Ice Dragon, flying around on winter days, people bolting the doors as the icy chill swept over the country. No one was ever knew how to tame and ride it; only ever immediately frost bitten and killed. But she was never afraid of the dragon, she has always considered it hers. And it becomes even more hers when her and the Ice Dragon must save her whole country from destruction…

The Ice Dragon was surprisingly a very easy and quick read! It was only about one hundred pages long, and I read it in one afternoon because of how easy it was to just pick up on the story. My grandfather use to read this book to me when I was younger, and I really wanted to re-read. It was very different from what I normally read, so I found it interesting to be able to read something unusual. It being short, you don’t really get to see a lot of character development or details, but it was the kind of book you just sit down to read in an afternoon to enjoy a little short tale about courage and sacrifice, with a midevil spin on it. And if you like a good short story, this one was very interesting and easy to read.
This book was written to be in the same world as another book by George R. R. Martin, A Song Of Ice And Fire, which was made into the tv show, Game of Thrones, and is for much maturer (adult) years but this book was great for ages 12-13+. I would rate The Ice Dragon a 7 out of 10!
