The Giver by Lois Lowry (Book Review)

Jonas lives in the world of Sameness, were everything that interferes with everyday life and job production is eliminated. Jonas' life seems to be going great, until the Ceremony of the Twelve, were the new twelve-year-olds get assigned their new life rolls. Everyone of his friends get assigned regular jobs, like Birthmothers or Recreation developer, but when it comes to Jonas, Jonas is chosen to be something special. Jonas starts training along side a strange man called The Giver, and Jonas now learns the truth about the world he is living in and the dark secrets the Elders are keeping, as well as the good that they have taken away. Will Jonas be able to help those he loves, or will it be to late?

The Giver is a really good book in my opinion and is the second book I have read by Lois Lowry (she also wrought the book Number The Stars, on the Holocaust, that you can find more about HERE). It shows how valuable our life we have is and how valuable love is. I really enjoyed how this book shows character development, Jonas in this story thinks everything around him is harmless, the world he lives has a solution to everything, from getting his knees scraped to just simply growing up, so what is there to worry about? But there is so much Jonas doesn't know about that he learn is going on, it is really interesting when he learns what love is and what the truth is. In this book it is pretty much showing what our world could have been like or could be like if we don't remember that we have to have love and share the truth. Just think about a world with out all those things and then you'll realize how important they are.

The Giver is book 1 to The Giver Quartet Lois Lowry wrought. I'm really excited to read all the other books! I would rate this book a 8 out of 10, and I would recommend this book for 13 year olds and up.

HERE is also a Blog post my friend wrought about The Giver!
