The False Prince, by Jennifer Neilsen (Book 1 Of The Ascendance Series Review)

“If I had to do it all over again, I would not have chosen this life. Then again, I'm not sure I ever had a choice.”

In a dissatisfied kingdom, war is not far from a reality. Connor, a nobleman, comes up with a plan to find an imitator of the king’s supposed to be died son, and turn him into a puppet prince. Sage, one of the four boys recruited for this task, knows he must be chosen to play the prince or he will be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own plans. As Sage moves from the orphanage he lived in to Conner's palace, lies upon lie become uncovered, until the truth is is finally revealed…

“.....Just because it's possible doesn't mean its wise”

If you love fast pasted, thrilling fiction, full of plot twists that you weren’t anticipating until they are finally upon you, and you have to do a double check to make sure you read it correctly—Read. This. Book.
The False Prince is the first fantasy novel that I've read of Jennifer Neilsen’s, and it was really good. Her historical fictions are really amazing as well, but the way she was able to write this book in such a different way was so unexpected.
I’ve read quite a few books where they are just so predictable, and The False Prince is like a breath of fresh air!
First off, it’s from the main character, Sage’s perspective, and yet it’s not at the same time. It’s hard to explain without spoiling it, you really just have to read it to understand. It’s so unpredictable, and so easy—and yet challenging—to read, all at the same time. Ive read many books were i just found the main character annoying and hard to relate to, but Sage was just really cool, and is an amazing main character.
The False Prince is book one to the Ascendance series, so it does end a bit on a cliff hanger, so if you are just planing on reading just the first book, you’d just have to know that.
I’d definitely recommend this book. It’s just so good and I really can’t say anymore about if because id spoil too much!
I’d suggest this book for 12-13 year olds, and I’d rate it a 9-10.
