Rilla of Ingleside, L. M. Montgomery (Book Review)
Almost all of Anne’s children are all grown up. All but Rilla, Anne’s smiling, romantic almost fifteen-year-old. Wherever Rilla is, laughter is. It’s the night of her first real dance at the Four Winds Lighthouse, when news comes that war has broken out overseas. When her three brothers—Jem, Walter, and Shirley—along with her sweetheart —Kenneth Ford— and life long friends —Jerry Meredith and Carl Meredith—enlist to fight, Rilla must keep faith as her life changes forever…
“There was something in her movements that made you think that she never walked but always danced.”
Rilla of Ingleside is one of my new favorite books! It’s hard to even explain how much I loved it. My favorite Anne book was probably Anne’s House of Dreams, but this is definitely one of my new all time favorites. I actually laughed and cried while reading this book, which is hard for an author to do, but Montgomery did it here! There was the perfect amount of all the different elements in a book. Happiness, sadness, life and romance.
The characters were so good. My favorites were Kenneth and Rilla, because of the story development and character development in the two of them together. I love couples in books that complete each other so well, all of the sweet moments in this book was just so beautiful.
Rilla is definitely one of my heroes, and I know I will reread this book over and over. I would recommend it for ages 12+ and I would rate it a 9 out of 10, and really only to keep 10 more elusive, otherwise it might have been one. I can’t recommend this book enough!
