Anne of Ingleside, by L. M. Montgomery (Book Review)
Anne, now a mother of six, is happily settled in Ingleside. Her husband, Gilbert is a well known doctor, and enjoys being a father. The Blythe children, Jem, Walter, Nan, Diana, Shirley, and Rilla play at Ranbow Valley and make friends. Life isn’t perfect, and far from it at Ingleside, but the Blythe family is happy. And there is many adventures to come…
“Well, that was life. Gladness and pain … hope and fear … and change. Always change! You could not help it. You had to let the old go and take the new to your heart … learn to love it and then let it go in turn. Spring, lovely as it was, must yield to summer and summer lose itself in autumn. The birth … the bridal … the death…”
Anne of Ingleside was a very enjoyable book to read! I had taken a break from reading Anne books after i read Anne’s House of Dreams, but when I decided to pick this back up it was like an old friend came back. Although I didn’t like it as much as the other books, it’s hard to enjoy reading about such lovable people. Anne and her family are just so funny and sweet at the same time, you can’t help but love them all.
I do kind of wish that the book touched on Anne more than how much it did of the kids, but I guess I can see why Montgomery did write it that way.
I would recommend this book for 12-13 yo and up, (I’ve said why I recommend it for older ages in my other posts HERE) and I would rate it a 8 out of 10!
