The Devil’s Arithmetic (Book Review)
This is a book about a 12 year old girl named Hannah, she and her family spend every Jewish holiday with her relatives, hearing about all the Holocaust events and everything that happened to the Jewish people in the Death Camps. Hannah doesn't know why they have to revisit the past, until she opens the door in the house to let the Prophet Elijah in, and suddenly is in the past, she find herself in a Jewish village, in 1942. Why is she there? Everyone who "knows" her there called her Chaya. Then Hannah forgets her life as Hannah and becomes Chaya.
Now Nazis are planning to "resettling" the Jews, and Hannah or Chaya, and her new relatives are taken to a Death Camp.
No one believes Hannah when she tells them where they are going, but soon they might. Now Hannah will always remember and listen to the stories of the Holocaust and respect them, if she can even get back...
This was a really amazing book and might actually be my new favorite. I never really understood what took place at Death Camps, until I read this book and now, just like Hannah, can know and remember the people who worked and died there. I would recommend this book for 12 yo to adult, there are hard and very saddening topic and scenes that the Nazis did to people in those death camps, so I would suggest it for those ages.
I really enjoyed this book so so much and hope you read it too!
